The ship-to addresses map straight across. But when you edit a bill-to address in ISE, you're actually editing a credit card billing address (look at the bottom of the customer module in IS for the "Credit Card" menu option.

As for the "Welcom Email", take a look at the config option "SendWelcomEmail". I haven't had the need to use it yet, but give it a try!

Best regards,

RE: Initial set up of customers to alow web access

I want to employ normal people (not university graduates) to work for me on telephone orders. Need to eliminate some of the manual set up. (we could enter 100 new customers a day over the phone)
i.e. every new customer is automatically web enabled on the default website. (it is not available in the 'Customer class template') can I default it in the data dictionary or manually in SQL? EDIT: I have just noticed a preference in class template for 'Is Web Access' but after setting it does not seem to set up what I need (web enabled on the default website)

don't like the idea of entering initial passwords, let alone twice. Need to sort something there! I do like Everest's' solution (mentioned earlier)

BTW Everest sends a welcome email to the new customer as soon as the account is created, confirming their details. (a nice touch) is this possible?

From what I have seen, so far, the update of addresses between the web and back end is not working well at all. I will create a new post when I have done some more testing :)

RE: Initial set up of customers to alow web access

Looks like Eric had the same ideas I had. We usually create random passwords in some way (numeric, guid, phone numbers, etc.) in the import spreadsheet so that they are encrypted when imported into the database. Then, we let the customers go to the site and click "I forgot my password" which will email it to them and then then log in and change it if they want to.

If creating customers inside the IS client, you'll have to click "Next" in the wizard to get to the contact tab, mark them web enabled and select the appropriate site, then enter a random password for them (twice). They can use the "I forgot my password" to get in the first time.

Note that in both of these cases, they have to enter an address the first time they log in. The web store actually stores the billing address in a credit card record (even if a card isn't used). This record is created on their first log in. We sometimes run a script we developed to create these billing address records for the imported customers.

Most of our clients get virtually all of their new customers from new website users which works very well.

Hope this helps,

RE: Initial set up of customers to alow web access

What I did is to make a column for calculating a number password. For example start with 478482 then add 3 or whatever for each consecutive cell. Then you can copy those numbers into the actual password column as text. We then did a mass email saying giving them the signin page, then they just had to enter their email and use the password reminder button, with further instructions to change their password upon first login. Worked out pretty well.

For newly set up customers from the phone you need to make sure everyone knows to go into the account info tab and check the box that allows access to the website. You'll need to put in a random password for them.

Initial set up of customers to alow web access

Most companies taking on Interprise will have existing customers to import. We have a 'several thousand' customer database, most initiated through our old website. The remainder gained via telephone/mail-order.

My dilemma is this:
How to set customers within IS so they can accurately log in to our new IS website?

(Our existing website does not require a log in. We just assign new web orders manually to existing accounts or create new accounts, where necessary, within our old back office set up)

I can only think to somehow set them all up with a random log in password. Then we could email all the ones with an email address their password. The remainder, without email addresses can't be set up as the email address it the key to the log in on via the web.

I would have much preferred to have done nothing (like Everest's system works). On the web, the customers with recognized email addresses can simply request a password to be auto created upon the first log in. If the password has never been set then a random one is created and auto emailed. Can this be achieved with IS? The main advantage of this can be seen below

Day to day new customer manual entry:
We take an order from someone over the phone and we manually input his details (inc email address) and create his new account. We tell him that we have a great website if he would like to have a look. Later the next day, the same guy checks out our website and decides to place a second order. How will he be able to log in to the account we created for him (armed with just his email address)?
