How can my plugin make the form need saving?

I am trying to crate a plugin that brings in data from another database. If the user types information in my plugin, I want the form (where the plug in is located) to pop up the dialog that asks the user if they want to save the changes. Is there anyway for my plugin to tell the form that it is "dirty" or that a save needs to happen?

I would like a function within my custom plugin to be called when the save button is clicked on the find customer form.
How can I register an event handler for the save function in the customer find form?

IS Shipping Module VS Shiptools

just updated system to IS5.3.4 and looking at implementing the shipping feature in IS. There are 2 options 1. IS shipping plug in and also Shiptools from [url=http://www.razorsoft.com/]razorsoft[/url]

Currently majority of our shipments (85%) Via UPS with wordship software , 10% LTL and remaining USPS. 80% of our UPS shipments for customers are in multi box shipments. So the shipping plug in needs to handle multi package shipments.

I would really like to implement one of these 2 plug in to help stream line our shipping process. So if anyone has any feed back on these 2 plug-ins that would be great? how they work Back end, integration for webstores, bugs, etc.

Has any had a chance to look at or use the USA version of the Lerryn payroll module? I remember it was in beta a few months back but haven't heard anything since.

What are the minimum requirements I need to purchase from DEVX in order to do simple SDK changes? Do I need both Winforms and WEB ? Do I need an entire subscription for $1299. That seems an awful lot for just getting started. What can I get away with the get my feet wet?
